This class will use cinema as a vehicle for understanding music and will bring to life the magical touch that music adds to your favorite movie scenes. The class will explore how music theory and its elements (pitch, rhythm and musical form) work together to create specific moods that are required for a cinematic scene. In this course we will cover the basics of learning how to read music and understand how music is organized using time signature and meter. We will then dive into your favorite cinematic scenes and explore how these elements of music theory are used. We will analyze and discuss the effectiveness of the music in the scenes using the knowledge we have gained in the class. Your experience of listening to music will never be the same after this course. No knowledge of music theory is necessary for this course. All you need is to do is listen with an open mind.
